Religion stands as the belief in the existence of a God or Gods, and the activities that are connected with the worship of them. Or one of the systems of faith that are based on the belief in the existence of a particular God or Gods. It the questions of which, why most of the people devoting themselves to religious life, what exactly in there, what is about it any way, what took you being religious, can anyone be part of it and what if some is not, is there any possibility to be non religious in this world.
People of different religion
Truthfully, religion meets many different needs for people, societies, and nations. First, human beings cannot understand the complexity of the world around them, and long for explanations for that complexity, so religion answers that needs. Religious people know how to live, behave in any particular situation according to religious teachings. The world is complicate in many areas, so it doesn’t need complicated people, instead it needs people who are gentle, calmer, people who are environmentally friendly solving their complications with the preference of rightness and those people turns out to religious people who are very humane. Simply to put complicated world with complicated people do not make right.
Second, human beings seek purpose in their lives, and religion gives many people that purpose. God created human for several reasons, but the best purpose of all is worship him and thus turn out to be the only purpose of life and to achieve the purpose of life, people needed to be religious. God through different books the likes of Quran and Bible explained the reason of life how to live, behave, what do and what no to do, and to achieve the happiness of life people must follow the structures and the framework of Gods’ instruction and contrary to that one might find himself an extraordinary failure in this world.
Third, people are frightened of the responsibility of making decisions and choices, and religion imposes a structure on those decisions and choices in a way that is comforting to many. That is the beauty of the religion, everything have settled, instructions is there, every things has an answer, and those answers are the best of their kinds, religion left nothing from human himself, animals and earth itself.
Fourth, religion provides many of us with a moral or ethical framework, rules to live a good life, and the belief in consequences for having lived properly or not. Ethics framework involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior. A central aspect of ethics is “the good life”, the life worth living or life that is simply satisfying; most religions have an ethical component. Simply to put, to make the world a better place for you, for me and for them the religion teachings must be prioritize for everybody without exception, in so doing we will make a better life for everyone.
On the other side of coin, religions have their own taboos. Taboo, this is a cultural or religious custom that does not allow people to do, use or talks about particular things as people find it offensive or embarrassing. There are also a variety of taboos that impact daily activities.
Sexual Taboos: Some religions consider various sexual practices taboo. For instance in Islam committing adultery of marriage is considered a grave sin before God, in so doing only married couples are given the green light to have sex according to Islam. Fornication is considered to lead to confusion of lineage, the disconnection among families, and unstable relationships, in Islam also disapproved to look at members of the opposite sex with desire. In the meanwhile, Christian Bible, among Catholics, sex of any kind is taboo for clergy – priests, nuns, and monks but not for general believers.
Food Taboos: Jews and Muslims consider certain foods such as pork and shellfish to be unclean. Thus, the eating of them is spiritually polluting and taboo. According to Islam eating pork, cat, monkey, or any other disapproved animals is strongly forbidden unless there is a special emergency the like of hunger disaster when a person is facing starvation and his life has to be saved through the consumption of this meat. Hindus have taboos against eating beef because it is a sacred animal. To eat it is to profane it. Hindus of higher castes also face increasingly limited types of clean food. Those of high caste are considered more spiritually refined and closer to escape from the cycle of reincarnation. As such, it is easier for them to become spiritually polluted.
Association Taboos: Certain religions consider it taboos to associate with certain other groups of people. Hindus traditionally don’t associate with or even acknowledge the caste known as the untouchables. Again, it becomes spiritually polluting.
Business ethics: Interest, any excessive addition over and above the principal, such as interest, is prohibited in Islam in all forms. Interest is prohibited because it keeps wealth in the hands of the wealthy and keeps it away from the poor. It is also believed that interest makes a man selfish and greedy. All business and trade practices that do not result in free and fair exchange of goods and services are considered illegal (haram), such as bribery, stealing, and gambling. Therefore, all forms of deceit and dishonesty in business are prohibited.
Clothing and adornment: Islam, both gold adornments and silk cloths are prohibited for men to wear, but are permissible for women as long as they are not used to sexually attract men (other than their husbands). The prohibition of these adornments is part of a broader Islamic principle of avoiding luxurious lifestyles. It is considered immoral for women to wear clothing that fails to cover the body properly and clothes that are transparent. Additionally, Islam prohibits excess beautifying that involves the altering of one’s physical appearance. Physical alterations that are considered immoral (haram) are tattoos and shortening of teeth
Finally, the importance of religion on an individual, societal, and national level varies greatly. People often long for a better understanding of the world and religion seeks to answer our questions as well as assign purpose to give life greater meaning. Religion can also bind together societies and nations; although, religion has also driven conflict amongst people and countries just as easily as it can bring those together.
